Most were donated by the Pioneer Sons and Daughters Genealogical Society of Des Moines. The records span the years 1846–1888, with a small number extending as late as 1956.
Although heavily represented by filings in Polk County, these materials document individuals from communities across Iowa and from a wide range of countries of origin.
